[Enlisted 11 January 1915 into the 15th (Service) Battalion, The Prince of Wales's Own (West Yorkshire Regiment) (1st Leeds) (1138). To Egypt 30 December 1915 with 93rd Brigade in 31st Division. Wounded.] Transferred to Princess Victoria's (Royal Irish Fusiliers) 30 November 1916 and joined
the 9th (Service) Battalion 12 December 1916. 'B' Company. Initially
reported missing, he was wounded at the Battle of Langemarck on 16 August 1917. Discharged as no longer physically fit for war service due to wounds 6 December 1918. Silver War Badge, number B54750. 1914-15 Star.

After the war joined Leeds City Council as a pupil inspector and qualified as a Sanitary Inspector in 1920.
Worked in Kingston on Hull, East Retford, and Chesterfield where he worked 36 years for the Rural District Council.
1929 Named on photograph of Chesterfield Rural District Council and Board of Guardians.
Lived for many years at Wilkin Hill, Barlow, near Chesterfield.
