He became associated with Robert James Whitla and the wholesale dry goods business. He also served on the Debt Adjustment Board of Manitoba. A member of the St. Stephen’s-Broadway United Church, he served on the board there and was also a member of the board of the United College. He was made an honorary life member of the Northern Light Lodge, AF and AM. He retired from the dry goods business sometime before his death on 9 October 1949. He was buried in St. John’s Cemetery. A former resident of 121 Gerard Street where he lived with his wife Margaret Gray, he had three children: Margaret Binns (wife of Frank Parker), George Binns, and John Binns.
