1890 Jun 30 Brooklyn Daily Eagle: Lewis and Fowler in suit against Elizabeth Binns and other heirs of the late James Binns. For forty years James Binns manufactured street cars on the premises now occupied by Lewis and Fowler, and he sold out his interest to the present consortium. Binnss son was at first taken into the new business but was allegedly squeezed out and established himself as a rival manufacturer, on the other side of the street as Binns & Vanderwater. Elizabeth Binns, widow is now 70 years of age. Negotiations for the sale of the property to Lewis and Fowler were in progress before the fire. Lewis and Fowler and Binnss solicitor thought they had reached agreement to sell for $60,000, only for widow Binns to reveal that she had agreed to sell for less than $69,000 to Dr James R Taylor, of New York, a wealthy physician, and father of James Taylor, husband of widow Binnss daughter [Emma]

James L Taylor authorized their solicitor George F Elliott to sell the property for the estate which he did for $60,000 to Lewis and Fowler. However the estate had authorized James L Taylor to sell for $70,000. Cost were awarded to the Binnses
