1846 Feb 14 Leeds Times:Marriage on Monday Mr Joseph Horsman, fuller, Leeds to Miss Esther Newton, of Wortley. Marriage on Monday Mr James Binns, delver to Miss Mary Newton, sister of the above, all of Wortley
1851 Census married head at Obedoms[?] Place, Wortley, age 33, surveyor of roads. Next door is Newton family probably related to wife
1858 Jun 1 Leeds Mercury: Mr Binns, assistant surveyor and overlooker of stone breaking on behalf of parochial authorities at Holbeck.[ Also 10 Jul 1858 Leeds Mercury]
1858 Jun 5 Leeds Intelligencer: Paupers from the Holbeck workhouse were employed breaking stones and James Binns the assistant to the highway surveyor gave them a note showing the amount of work they had done. They presented the notes to the Matron of the workhouse and received appropriate payment. On thiis occasion the signature on the note had been forged.
